A Legacy of Love

Our name was inspired by Bernadine Chukwuma, the mother of our founder, whose warmth, generosity, and passion for good food continue to shape everything we do. She believed that food was never just about eating — it was about bringing people together, creating memories, and sharing joy.

We began in 2017 as Café Bena, making our first mark at Bufest (Babcock University Fest) where we sold over 500 cups of our signature milkshake in just one day. Encouraged by that success, we set out on a campus tour across Nigeria — from Afe Babalola University to Landmark University and Covenant University — carrying her values with us: hospitality, creativity, and consistency.

From Campus to Kitchen

Soon after our campus tours, we opened our first kitchen at the University of Lagos, Faculty of Social Science, turning Café Bena into a daily stop for students and young professionals who craved meals made with heart. What started with milkshakes and pop-ups quickly grew into a kitchen where every dish reflected the lessons passed down from Bernadine Chukwuma herself: cook with care, serve with pride, and always put people first.

As we grew, Café Bena evolved into Bernadines — a name that carries both heritage and ambition. Today, from our dark kitchens in Sholanke, Akoka and Lekki Phase 1, we serve thousands of Lagosians every week, with chef-prepared meals that balance tradition and innovation.

From our famous Milkshakes, Shredded Chicken Pasta to our fiery Ata Din Din Wings, every plate tells the story of where we've been, who inspires us, and where we're going.

And this is only the beginning. Named after a mother, built by her son, and loved by a city, Bernadine's is here to bring flavor, comfort, and joy — one meal at a time.
